In order to maximize safety and maintenance efficiency, friction testing is utilized by airports around the world. With the use of a friction tester, OMSI is able to determine the friction of various areas of the runway. This in turn prevents aircraft accidents on the runway and allows the airport to reduce maintenance costs by pinpointing areas with lower levels of friction.

A wet pavement gives the lowest amount of friction on a surface. In order to replicate this, OMSI uses a friction testing machine that emits a constant stream of water at 1 mm which is then measured by the device. This allows OMSI to get the most accurate readings and friction values of the runway quickly and efficiently.
